January can be the coldest month, so keep the frost off your pots and containers by wrapping them in horticultural fleece or even bubble wrap and standing them up on blocks to ensure they have good drainage in wet weather. Moving pots to a sheltered spot will also help or, of course, to your greenhouse.
Remove any faded flowers, damaged or diseased leaves from your winter pansies to stop them setting seed and to give them an added boost for another bloom. If you take care of them the colour will remain through to spring.
Garden birds still need water during the winter months and in freezing cold weather it can actually be hard for them to find any. Refresh any frozen water daily to ensure there is a plentiful supply of water on offer at all times, and don't forget to make sure there are holes in your pond to allow mini creatures access when needed.
