Happy new year everyone! It’s not just a new year but a whole new decade, how exciting! What a great time to look back through your notes from previous years and photographs on your phone to see what worked well and what needs improving in the garden.

If you are anything like me, you will already be flicking through the piles of seed catalogues deciding on what you want to grow in 2020. The one thing I must remember this year is that I really don't need so many squash plants! Plus, this is the first year in many that I won’t be growing runner beans. They may be a reliable crop and the one that everyone grows on an allotment but I am not a big fan, so after many years of growing them anyway, I’ve decided 2020 is the year to save the space for something different.

I have grown Dahlias for about 15 years and they are probably my favourites but I do love to mix it up so I am going big on Gladioli and Chrysthanthemums this year and my nose has been stuck in the catalogues deliberating which varieties to choose!

There is nothing like getting outside in the garden or down the allotment on crisp January days and getting some fresh air. I have just finished harvesting the last of the microgreens in my Rhino Greenhouse and the whole plot has been weeded and mulched so it’s good to go when I get back from the US in March. As I will be away for a few weeks, I will be bursting at the seams to get sowing as soon as I return!

In the meantime, enjoy the planning and preparation month of the year as Spring is just around the corner.
